Philosophy of Ministry

Philosophy of Ministry

At Colonial Bible Church strive to be overtly and consciously Biblical about everything that we do.

We believe that all we do should be governed in the following ways:

A God-Honoring Vision

1)      To Exalt the glory of God. – II Cor. 5:9; I Cor. 10:31

In applying this primary foundation for the Church and the Christian life, this means that we must view everything we do as worship, and God as the only object of that worship.  Therefore we must only offer those things corporately and individually that please Him.  We want to enlarge His glory, and cause people to be in awe of His majesty so that they are most delighted in and consumed by God alone.

2)      To Equip and strengthen God’s people, the church. – Ephesians 4:11-13;Col. 1:28

As God becomes the central point of our life, we begin to value the things He values, and one of those things is the spiritual growth of His people.  In the Great Commission Jesus’ command goes far beyond mere evangelism, it literally says to be “disciple makers”.  It is our constant desire and prayer that all of those whom God sends to Colonial Bible Church would always be being “conformed to the image of Jesus Christ” (Rom. 8:29).  So that every man, woman, and child are molded by the Truth of Scripture into what God wants them to be for His glory.

3)      To Expand the Kingdom of God and His Church through the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ – Matthew 28:19-20

People in need of change, helping people change through the Good News of life in Jesus Christ.  This is the final step in the Christian experience, to know God and His glory, then to be changed by what we see and know in Him, and last to communicate that God and message of change in Christ to others who do not know Him.  We have been given the gift of God’s grace, and must be good stewards to share what has been given to us.  Whether at home or around the world Colonial Bible Church desires to see others come to a saving, personal, and vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ.

A God-Centered Approach

1)      A High View of God – Rom. 11:36; Is. 42:8

We believe that God must be central to our thinking and that He must be seen as the transcendent God that He is.  Because God is holy and above our ways we must aspire to what and who He is, without bringing Him down to the level of men.  A high view of God is imperative to being a Biblical church and true reflection of Christ’s body.  Therefore, all that we do should reflect this great and transcendent God.

2)      A High View of Scripture – Jer. 23:29; II Tim. 3:16; Jer. 15:16; Ps. 19:7-10

We believe that Scripture alone must be the foundation for all that we believe and do.  Because it is God’s living, inerrant and pure Word, it alone is all-sufficient for our every need and therefore must govern all our ways.  Not only do we believe in the sufficiency of the Word, we believe that it speaks with absolute clarity and authority to all men in all ages.  To faithfully supply God’s people with God’s Truth, we believe that the best way to do this is through the faithful, systematic exposition (explaining) of God’s Word in a verse-by-verse model.

3)      A Low View of Man – Jn. 3:30; Ps. 103:14

Whenever we seek to elevate ourselves or our ways, we attack the supremacy of God and eclipse His glory and power to work effectively in our lives.  If God is to do His life-changing work in us, it is critical that we humble ourselves under His rule in our lives.  We as fallen creatures must place ourselves in the proper place to have the proper view of God.

A God-Given Heritage

Colonial Bible Church does not exist in a vacuum.  We are the beneficiaries of countless faithful men and women who have contended for the Truths outlined in our philosophy and doctrinal statement.  We feel especially akin to the Reformation that God brought about in the 15th & 16th centuries and the Truths that were reclaimed and exalted in that era.  We desire to be a continuation of that Reformation today by adhering to its Biblical tenants:

Sola Scriptura
(Scripture Alone)

Sola Gratia
(God’s Grace Alone)

Sola Fide
(By Faith Alone)

Sola Christus
(In Christ Alone)

Soli Deo Gloria

(For God’s Glory Alone)
